24 miles into the wilderness
Very cool, but calm and cloudy
So remote that when we heard a plane we stopped paddling to look. The students commented on the deafening quiet at bed time apart from the screams of the local loon.
12 miles, 2 portages and the group is working smoother. Each student has carried a canoe by themselves and is paddling and packing more efficiently. They have changed in many ways since the first time they all went out together in 9th grade. By seeing them each year their transition toward the next part of their lives is both hopeful and tentative.
Tomorrow they find their way out to start the drive home. We may or may not be able to post a picture on Thursday depending on how long it takes us to get out.
