Carol and I on our balcony overlooking Lake Murray in Columbia, SC.
I hope that our smiles belay the great relief, excitement, and love that we share as I arrived home safely a few days ago!
It's the weekend now (Saturday morning here - June 2) and I am just starting to feel like normal again as I have had a few days to rest up, have started to eat again, and am over the fog of about a week of travel from the top of Mt. Everest to Columbia, SC. My departure from Kathmandu was on a whim as a seat on an flight suddenly became available and I took advantage of the opportunity to fly home ASAP! All worked out well as I shared the recent full moon with Carol from here on our balcony where the moon lit up the lake waters late at night and was so beautiful!
My arrival home has been greeted by many requests for interviews and potential speaking engagements of which I relish. I am excited to be able to continue to talk about the 7 Summits and of course my passion, nursing! It has been my privilege to advocate for nursing and I hope that I have been able to share with all of you that passion as I have discussed the looming shortage and what we can do to make a difference!
I would like to take this opportunity to thank those that have been so kind to send well wishes, prayers, and letters of support. These messages truly helped me get to the top ... and most importantly, back down safely. I want all of you to know that your input was vital to my survival, and both Carol and I greatly appreciate it from the bottom of our hearts :>)
*The messages being answered were all posted between 5/20-5/28.
I will return with future postings specific to my thoughts on summit day, lessons learned, etc.

It's great to see you two so happy. I know that Carol missed you so much and was so worried about you like everyone else. A great accomplishment to add to your many accomplishments!!! The children at Oak Pointe was so excited the last day of school to hear that you had returned home safely!! Ms. Grosse (Ashlyn's 4th grade teacher) wants you to come speak to the 3rd, 4th and 5th graders at Oak Pointe this fall if possible. She is so excited since they study about Mount Everest during the school year. Well enjoy your weekend and hope to see you soon!

Visitor — Mon, 06/04/2007 - 05:11Hey Pat and Carol - I prefer the photo with your smiles compared to the gumby and pokey photo (but that was fun about a month ago - I have to admit - now it is a relief to have the "real smiles" beaming!)
I am tempted to revert to your personal e-mail - Pat, so as not to be on the public forum - but that may be too bogglesome for you right now - so while the blog is going, I will continue to post a note here and there. It has been a nice daily habit to know what you are doing, but - now I suppose you don't want to give us a play by play! Glad you are getting reacclimated with sleep and nourishment. The re-entry into the states and being back home is huge - and I am sure you are having fun (and yet, some overwhelm?) to get your arms around what presentations, interviews and opportunities will come next.
Hope you will submit a AORN Congress presentation. I saw Paula this weekend at the PNDS TF and we decided you should submit your own since you are home - rather than us trying to guess the perspective you will choose to present. The sooner the better - the planning cmte is coming in this next weekend (so do it as soon as you can)
Know that I am thinking of you - it sounds like you have a wedding and some fun family travel and a trip to the "down under" planned. I look foward to seeing you on your trip to Colo in July.
Let me know what I can do to help talk up the passion of nursing for the Summit Scholarship. Your passion for nursing and your quest for the summit certainly paves the way to conversations with people interested in a nursing profession. I am not sure people realize the opportunities that nursing provides for people and the difference it makes to patients to have a nursing perspective. Our profession is different from other healthcare professions - may be hard to explain, but we need to keep trying as nurses are a different type of patient advocate and play such an important role in patient safety.
Glad you are home and enjoying some moon gazing and the great views of the lake.
Bonnie
So nice to see the two of
Bill and Michele — Mon, 06/04/2007 - 12:58So nice to see the two of you back together. Now I can relax because you look very safe and very happy. It's been a fun journey and I look forward to all the stories to come from this. Michele
