After holding our breath and waiting for the flood of ratings to come pouring in, Brad and I realised that something was wrong. We've so far received only 12 ratings, and interestingly, these are spread across only two businesses. So, as of yesterday, we hit the streets again.
What we found was surprising. Of all of the 30 businesses that agreed to participate and distribute the rating cards to their customers, only 2 of those businesses had actually distributed any cards (forgot, had to check with someone, etc were the reasons we heard, but we suspect that these business owners got nervous about putting the service levels of their business on the line). And, of the two businesses that did distribute rating cards, only 18 cards in total had actually been handed out.
So, while the results had initially seemed disappointing, we actually had a 67% response rate! So that's extremely encouraging. Just as people like to verbally tell others about their positive and negative experiences, our crude test indicates that they’ll embrace the idea of publicly sharing this information online. Obviously business owners aren't the best way to encourage ratings though so we'll have to think that one through.
