Well fortunately Nat's condition improved through the night and we were able to meet up with the rest of the group at Phakding, only to find that Jan had come down with the same ailment. So instead of tackling the big hill up to Namche today, we had a shorter 3 hour trip today to Monjo, where we are now resting. Jan is feeling better now and another night's sleep should do both of them a world of good.
To keep thing's interesting, I'll pass over to Dave to give you an insight into his thoughts on today's action. Take it away Dave...
Thanks Pat. The most striking things about the trek so far are the mass of mountains and the friendly locals...nam e ste! that’s hello in Nepalese. I love the people. Their smiles are addictive. Em and I went down to the river this morning. The water comes straight from the glaciers and is freezing. Today, we are following the Dudh Kosi River (meaning cloudy river) through the valley that leads us to the big one. On the way, we walk over suspension bridges and through small villages, passing sherpas, porters and zojo (half yack and cow), which are carrying food supplies for the Namche Markets this weekend.
I have the runs, but fighting fit. Tomorrow we will start experiencing high altitude...should add another physical challenge for the team.
Just a quick hello to everyone back home. Enjoy your oxygenated air :)

Shelagh — Thu, 04/01/2010 - 16:57It's great to see another climber using this fabulous website to keep in touch with the outside world and especially all of us armchair climbers. I feel for you and your trekking partners who are experiencing digestive upsets and especially the runs! It is never pleasant but even less so when you are traveling. I hope your innards toughen up and let you get on with enjoying such an amazing trek to Everest BC. Looking forward to following your climb.
