LOCATION: Uhuru Peak, 19,341 feet. Clear, 20 degrees
Meghan here;
Though oxygen deprived, and shell shocked, summitting Kilimanjaro was miles beyond what I ever thought I could do. The combination of the guides, porters and climbers this has been an experience of a lifetime. Can't wait to share our stories, mambo, safi kapiza.
We had all 18 climbers make the top. That is a very special and unusual count.

You persevered up the great rock, challenged yourselves, overcoming small obstacles, walking for days thru the cold, oxygen deprived environment, and many other unknowns to us at home. Take a long deep breathe and relish the view, and freshness high in the sky, as it avails itself to very few. Through your own determination, encouragement from far away and one another, you have raised your own bar...nothing is impossible for any of you now. Enjoy your success, keep your eyes wide open, your head held high, and your mind clear, as the rest of your journey is all down hill! Now is the fun part, take lots of pictures and write down some events and stories to share with us all when you return. Have a safe and wonderful experience, all of you are missed by loved ones, as is clear by the many posts here.
Jen, everything here is fine. We all miss you, and you are thought of often by family and friends . Can't wait to see you. You are always in my thoughts.

In all seriousness, I am so freakin' relieved. I love you so much and I was terrified that you would push yourself too far. But apparently, the top of the world is just NOT too far for Keith Davidson!! I know you're on your way back down now, but please let Mom and Dad know how much we miss them and how much we appreciate the gifts of camaraderie, fortitude, humor, and tenacity.
This has been an amazing climb for all of you '09 climbers. From here, it seems that team work and being there for each other has made all the difference in this year's climb. You all have so much to be proud of, while it was your personal journey of inspiration, you have vicarously inspired so many of us on-lookers as well as our friends and colleagues.
Congratulations again on your summit, enjoy the trip down, and really party on your safari! We cannot wait to have you all back home!!

Wish I could have participated in the call to get the details firsthand, but celebrating a 70th wedding anniversary (of the parents of Sandy Robinson in whose honor I climbed) was a rare and exquisite opportunity. Life certainly presents tough choices. But, I will look forward to amazing flashbacks upon your return. Now go forth, and reward yourselves with a safari filled with delights of a different kind, and thank you for bringing it all back so vividly.
