Meghan here;
Though oxygen deprived, and shell shocked, summitting Kilimanjaro was miles beyond what I ever thought I could do. The combination of the guides, porters and climbers this has been an experience of a lifetime. Can't wait to share our stories, mambo, safi kapiza.
We had all 18 climbers make the top. That is a very special and unusual count.

partruc — Mon, 02/23/2009 - 09:35Congratulations to all of you! It's 4am here in the States and I haven't been able to sleep thinking about you all and what you have been going through. I am so proud to be a member of this wonderful family and honored that you have become a part of it. Success in this JOURNEY is not measured by how far you climb but how you've INSPIRED others and reading these emails will tell you just how successful you've been! The reward is far greater than getting you're picture taken in front of a simple wooden sign, it is being part of something as important and inspiring as JOI and I am so proud to call you all members of this family. Enjoy the rest of your time on the beautiful continent of Africa and can't wait to see you all at the reunion.

DesisMom — Mon, 02/23/2009 - 11:21An unusual count? That's wonderful! That means your team work really paid off. Ok, now, lets bring those helicopters in and whisk you home. Come on now, just a few sled dogs, that's all I ask. Are you really going back the way you came up? If you do you can take some satisfaction knowing that slumdog millionaire came through last night with several oscars.
Oh, for a thousand donkeys at your side. Love, Mom

John R — Mon, 02/23/2009 - 14:36CONGRATS! You all made the SUMMIT! You can all say, you have conquered the mountain of Kilimanjaro...a task few other in the world have done. You persevered up the great rock, challenged yourselves, overcoming small obstacles, walking for days thru the cold, oxygen deprived environment, and many other unknowns to us at home. Take a long deep breathe and relish the view, and freshness high in the sky, as it avails itself to very few. Through your own determination, encouragement from far away and one another, you have raised your own bar...nothing is impossible for any of you now. Enjoy your success, keep your eyes wide open, your head held high, and your mind clear, as the rest of your journey is all down hill! Now is the fun part, take lots of pictures and write down some events and stories to share with us all when you return. Have a safe and wonderful experience, all of you are missed by loved ones, as is clear by the many posts here.
Jen, everything here is fine. We all miss you, and you are thought of often by family and friends . Can't wait to see you. You are always in my thoughts.

Lincoln Cathers — Mon, 02/23/2009 - 16:39Hi Keith,
What a great and pleasant surprise to receive an email from Audrey this morning stating that all of your group made it to the top of the world in Africa. Success like that is called teamwork. Having talked with others who have made the summit, you all should be very proud of the preparation effort you undertook so success was possible. There are many of us in the Glens Falls Queensbury area that will want to hear all the details and see your pictures. Have a safe trip down and enjoy the safari. You earned it. All the best, Linc Cathers, Road to Recovery driver.

Kimberly.davids... — Mon, 02/23/2009 - 22:17Well, seems I'm nearly the last to realize that you've already made it to the Summit!! I keep forgetting that your "Today" was last night!! So, while I'm thinking (aka- worrying) about you and sending positive energy, you're SLEEPING?!
In all seriousness, I am so freakin' relieved. I love you so much and I was terrified that you would push yourself too far. But apparently, the top of the world is just NOT too far for Keith Davidson!! I know you're on your way back down now, but please let Mom and Dad know how much we miss them and how much we appreciate the gifts of camaraderie, fortitude, humor, and tenacity.
This has been an amazing climb for all of you '09 climbers. From here, it seems that team work and being there for each other has made all the difference in this year's climb. You all have so much to be proud of, while it was your personal journey of inspiration, you have vicarously inspired so many of us on-lookers as well as our friends and colleagues.
Congratulations again on your summit, enjoy the trip down, and really party on your safari! We cannot wait to have you all back home!!
Love, Kim

partruc — Tue, 02/24/2009 - 00:11Pretty impressive and all, but when we did it, it was uphill BOTH WAYS, and we were barefoot, and there was snow & hail & sleet & hurricanes & locusts, and there was no trail to follow, and we had to eat rocks, and we had to listen to Matt the whole time, and...wait, you had to listen to Matt the whole time too! I guess we didn't have it any worse than you! Nicely done! Terri and Rick - you rock!

dking002@roches... — Tue, 02/24/2009 - 02:31Your sense of exhilaration is echoing through the '08 group. How very proud we are of your successful climb--a testimony to your year of dedication and hard work. Wish I could have participated in the call to get the details firsthand, but celebrating a 70th wedding anniversary (of the parents of Sandy Robinson in whose honor I climbed) was a rare and exquisite opportunity. Life certainly presents tough choices. But, I will look forward to amazing flashbacks upon your return. Now go forth, and reward yourselves with a safari filled with delights of a different kind, and thank you for bringing it all back so vividly.
Many Hugs,
Diane
