Summit Scholarship Information/Challenges

Hi there Pat! I have to say that we think of you daily and each posting is so compelling. As I'm reading everyone's responses, there were several questions about how to contribute. The design team is working on the USC website for your climb, which will be up soon and will help make this process easier to access.
To make contributions to the Summit Scholarship online, folks can head to the University of South Carolina's main online contribution weblink. You can get to it directly by clicking on this link: http://www.sc.edu/everest/
Fill out all information as described. When you reach "Contribution Information", enter as follows in the drop-down categories:
1. Division/Campus: SELECT "Columbia Nursing"
2. Category: SELECT "Scholarships"
3: Gift Designation: SELECT "Summit Scholarship Endowment Fund"

People can also access this page from USC's main homepage www.sc.edu. Click on "Make your Gift to Carolina" in the left hand column.

If anyone has any questions on this, I'll be happy to help. You can email me directly at downeyl@gwm.sc.edu.

Summit Scholarship Challenges

As I mentioned in my last message, I will donate $100.00 to the Summit Scholarship and challenge all Canadians to match or beat it (or any amount). We are way behind the Americans in donations and before Pat finishes would like to be ahead. Europeans and others feel free to join the challenge.

Hey Pat

Hey Pat I never miss a day reading your blog and keeping up with your progress towards your goal. I plan to pledge a hundred dollars to the Summit Scholarship and I figure if 300 nurses total would do that then your initial goal would be reached. I definitely want to challenge all nurses to participate in your scholarship fund when you consider the average age of a nurse nowadays is around 50 think of how the critical shortage will be in around 12 or so years. I am 52 myself and only plan to stay on my feet at the bedside another 13 and half years. So I want to see us becoming proactive about recruiting bright and competent people to take over for us in the future. I know many folks are torn between charities but this one is very important and I am still able to work some overtime to help with the cause and challenge all nurses especially South Carolina nurses to fund the Summit Scholarship.
I will keep following your progress as well as the rest of the team you all are a wonderful inspiration and what an example of teamwork.

Take care
Susan Danieley

Pat,

Good to see you posing with something besides snow/ice and also wearing a few less layers! Hope the thicker air and better food will strengthen you for the upcoming trials. Good news-South Carolina Heart Center will be making a $1,000 contribution to the Summit Scholarship. Now I challenge the other hospitals/medical practices/nursing organizations to match SCHC's generosity! Come on Palmetto Richland, Lexington Hospital, AORN, to name a few. Time to jump on the band wagon and support the future of health care!

Summit Scholarship

Hi Danno, I'm Pat's friend from Palmetto Richland Hospital. I donated $50 to the Summit Scholarship March 11, 08 (shortly after I spoke to Pat) and designated it at the bottom of the check and also with a note to USC (I didn't trust the on line system at the time to send it to the Summit Scholarship). My check cleared so I know they got it. I didn't see a Summit Scholarship donation listed by my name on the website, and I would hate to think that Pat would think I didn't donate to the cause. I went on line today to make another $50 donation (so it woud be an even $100) and it wouldn't go through. I'll try it from home tonight but it it does not work, I'll resort to check again. Thanks

Hi Sandra

Just wanted to reply to your message - I did check on your donation from March. It's in and it's at the right place! Will follow up on the acknowledgement. Thanks for checking.

Take care, and see you on the blog~
Liesl

Thanks

Liesl, thanks for checking! I was worried it went to the wrong place even with my note. sandra
