Hi all, Fiona from Melbourne here. The group was supposed to fly from Lukla to Kathmandu today but I just spoke with Paul and they are still in Lukla due to bad weather. No flights left today due to extremely foggy conditions. The forecast is better for the next 2 days so they're hoping to get a flight tomorrow. They are all well and passing the time playing cards, billiards and wondering around town.

Lindsay — Mon, 10/11/2010 - 04:17Lins here. On behalf of the Leprosy Mission Australia I just wanted to thank Paul & David from ESS for their excellent & very professional running of our Trek this year. Paul's obvious love of this region & it's people has been contagious. David's administration skills have ensured an efficiently run trek but his care & assistance rendered to a number of our team who have required extra support along the way has been wonderful. Thank you David for service over & above the call of duty.
My son Indi is someone I am very proud of. He got sick with the flu a day before Everest Base camp but managed to soldier onto Pamori Base Camp, Everest Base Camp & finally a huge effort, close to total exhaustion all the way to Island Peak Base Camp many days later. Inspirational stuff. He was so sick at Island Peak we hired a horse for an evaquation. Having never riden before he was a little apprehensive but soon got into the swing of things. As his flu cleared he found himself racing along the steep Himilayan tracks at break neck speed laughing & racing the Sherpa's.
We are stuck in Lukla missing our families but true to form the ESS team are already looking at other options. Someone suggested an old Russian helicopter which is parked on our airstrip???
Thanks guys & to all at home, Luv ya lots. XXXXX
Delays in Lukla
Deanna — Mon, 10/11/2010 - 05:19Namaste from Anandaban Hospital! Sorry to hear about all of the return flight issues. Some of us came last night to try to meet you in KTM - but saw the posting about your delays after returning. I was able to track down someone with Asian Trekking this morning by phone. They told us that the flights were again delayed today (Monday) and rescheduled for tomorrow. Please let me know if there is anything we can do. Praying you all get though soon, Deanna
P.S. Elisa, let me know if you want anything brought to KTM. I will be in town tomorrow for official work anyway. Gladly see you soon! :)

Cas — Mon, 10/11/2010 - 08:39Hi Paul
Bad luck with teh weather in Lukla. I know how annxious everyone is to get back to KTM and then home at the end of a trip. Fortubately I only ever got stuck for a few hours and even that was too much. But saftey is paramount and I hope the weather clears soon
My friend Paul V is already in KTM and they have plans to fligh to Lukla tomorrow morning. I dont know if he will be able to but if he does, then unless you guys meet at the airport its unlikely youwil meet. He is at teh Shanker Hotel. Maybe see if he is still tere when you get to KTM
Otherwise very well done for getting the group up and down safely
Paul B and myself have been follwing your progress daily.
Say hi to Dave A

Phone conversation with Elisa
Deanna — Mon, 10/11/2010 - 23:33Namaste from Deanna at Anandaban Hospital. For you blog readers - I was able to speak with Elisa last night. The group chartered helicopters to get from Lukla to KTM. It would take three helicopters to ferry everyone. Two helicopters were able to arrive in KTM before the cut off time for day flights. Those people (last I heard) were being met by the trekking company at the airport and then would go to the Annapurna Hotel in KTM. The third load of trekkers (including Elisa) is scheduled for a helicopter flight around 6:30am this morning from Lukla to KTM. They will then all meet at the airport to catch a morning flight to Australia. We'll pick up Elisa. I'm looking forward to hearing the first account stories!!
