We are back in Kathmandu. We went to the airport very early this morning hoping to fly to Lukla to begin our trek. Unfortunately, the weather decided not cooperate. We took off, flew for a bit and then turned around and went back to the airport. We then sat in the airport for 4 hours waiting to see if the clouds would clear. Finally they decided to cancel flights for the day and we called Nima to take us back to the hotel. It is great to have Nima. He is a huge help. We now have a ticket for 6:30am tomorrow morning. This will put us a day behind on our trek. We'll see how to best deal with it when we get in. This is pretty common for flights to be delayed to Lukla. The planes can not fly on instruments and can only fly via sight. Everyone keep your fingers crossed for us for tomorrow. It seems both of our trips are off to auspicios starts.........

Hope you are reading this from Lukla!
I was very touched by your story of presenting gift bags at the orphanage. To organize this ahead of time, bring all of those extra duffels and present such heartfelt gifts to the children is truly commendable.

Visitor — Tue, 03/18/2008 - 16:43Hi, Scott & Susan:
Thanks for your posts. I've said before that you are opening up the big world to our kids and we really appreciate it. We are tracking you in Kathmandu. It's great to be able to tell Nathan and Maggie about their distant relative, Inger, who with her husband ran the Royal Hotel there (Maggie likes that part the best :-) ). I'm re-reading "Tiger for Breakfast: the Story of Boris of Kathmandu" which tells about our Boris Lissanevitch and his wife, Inger. It helps to give the kids some perspective as well, even though it was a time long ago.
Nathan, on the other hand, wants to watch the Discovery Channel show on Mount Everest. He gets very excited thinking about what lies ahead for you (we're thinking positively), and seeing it in a small way on the screen.
We wish you well, good travels and good trekking. We'll keep the good thoughts heading your way.

Your sister-in-law Claire informed us of your latest expedition to climb Everest and said you might be having trouble accessing the mountain because of the political situation in China/Tibet.
We'd be interested in doing a story.
You can reach me at dedwards@thespec.com or, if you can call, at 905-526-2481.
I'd like to connect you with a reporter ASAP.
Cheers - and good luck.
