Well...
Scott, Angus, Mike, and Alan are not able to send anymore dispatches from the mountain, thanks to the Chinese gestapo. I'm bummed that we can't follow their climbs. I've been following Alan Arnette's climbs for a couple of years, and now he's back at Everest and we're robbed of the vicarious thrill. These guys can't discuss it on their sites, but I figure we can talk about it here. Anyone else have any thoughts about this?
its always just about the money!
Michaelb — Wed, 04/16/2008 - 13:20we can blame the Chinese but the south side of Everest is in Nepal and look who has changed the rules after the Goverment has already collected their fee's and who is enforcing the silence?
A shame not be able to follow the climbers
Paul Adler — Wed, 04/16/2008 - 13:31I agree that it's a real shame that we can't follow the climbers. I too have read Alan Arnette's coverage of Everest for years and was looking forward to following his journey this year. And the others too. It's a pity that the confiscation of sat phones was needed in Nepal. Yes, it's just across the border, but it feels like a world away. With a bit of luck the climbers should be back online in 3 weeks, but a lot can happen in this time.
