Scott calls from Base Camp

< Newer | Older >
Hello, this is Susan, Scott’s wife. Scott called today from base camp. It was great to hear his voice. He certainly had a bit more of the Khumbu cough than the last time I spoke with him but he said he is feeling very well otherwise. The team plans to start climbing again on Friday. They plan to go to camp 1 and spend a night or two, then head to camp 2 for a night or two. If camp 3 is established they would like to head up there for a visit to acclimatize then head back to base camp.
The team is managing to find some fun diversions to break up the monotony of life at base camp. They had a birthday party for Sylvie yesterday who is part of the other team they are sharing base camp with. The sherpa made a special dinner complete with birthday cake. The team had fun decorating the dining tent for her. Scott has also enjoyed meeting many Everest “celebrities” -people you and I may not know but if you are a climber they are well known.
Scott very much appreciates everyone who is following his climb. He is hoping to put a message on himself later in the week so stay tuned!

Rummy anyone

Hi Scott,

Back in Australia now working and the recent trip to Nepal and Island Peak seem a distant memory, although they are good memories. After meeting you and Susan I made it to the summit of Island Peak, was an excellent climb and the weather was extremely favourable and thus I feel very lucky.

Am enjoying reading your posts and hope that you still have those playing cards with you after the Nepalise porters gave them a pounding in Lobuche. I trust that you are propbably a mean rummy player by now after the time spent at base camp. All the best over the next couple of weeks.
