Back Home

Hi everyone, I returned home a week ago. Sorry I have not posted until now. I had a good flight from Kathmandu to Hong Kong and spent a night in Hong Kong with some friends. I want to say thank you to Jeff and Christie for being such great hosts for my short stay in your home. It was a pleasure. It was also great to see Eddy. What a coincidence that he was in Hong Kong at the same time as me. From Hong Kong I flew to Vancouver and then home.
Upon arrival in Toronto I was met be Susan, Amy and C

Namche to Lukla

May 27 Namche to Lukla
Last night was spent in luxury at the Camp de Base hotel in Namche. For $25 Angus and I got a double room with a bathroom and a shower. The hotel sits one street up off the main hub so it is quite quiet for sleeping.
There is no heat in the rooms, but they still felt very warm compared to what we have been used to. I really wanted to have a shower as I had not had a real shower in six or seven weeks, but the cool temperature of the room was not welcoming. I decided to

Base Camp to Namche May 25-26

Sunday May 25. BC to Deboche 3800m. Today I left base camp to start my journey home. I have spent a long time living at base camp and it did become a temporary home, but it is time to go to my real home. Ryan stayed behind for an additional day to recover. He will join us in Kathmandu. There was no big party last night. We had beer and wine with dinner, but not much was touched. Our bodies are in recovery mode right now and did not want any alcohol. I slept alright last night, but not great. I g

The Descent from Summit to BC

I spent about 30 minutes on the summit of Mount Everest. The views were spectacular, but I was not really in a state of mind to appreciate it. I sat around for a while at 8850m without my mask on and started to feel the affects of the lack of oxygen. I had a difficult time breathing and walking around and my memory was not so good.
It did not really feel real. I thought it was a dream. Did I really do this. It is such a huge project and commitment and so few peop

The Summit May 21

SUCCESS!!! SCOTT AND ANGUS HAVE SUMMITED MOUNT EVEREST ON MAY 21, 2008 Sorry for the delay in this posting. I have been pretty busy over the last few days. This posting seems a little disjointed to me, but it is the best I can do at this time. I am at BC and very tired and there are a lot of things going on on the mountain right now. I will expand on this as I know more. There is so much to tell I am going to break it down into several posts. I will start with the ascent, then the descent to

THEY MADE IT!!!!

Angus and Scott made the Summit of Mount Everest!!! This is Susan here. I was out with Colin at swimming lessons and missed a call from Scott. He reported that he,Angus and Al made the summit and more importantly were back at camp 4 on the South Col safe and sound. Scott said "it was good, it was really hard but it was good." Despite the fact that he sounded exhausted he also sounded very happy and excited. They are heading down to camp 2 tomorrow and I am sure he will post then.&nbsp

May 20 South Col Camp 4

May 20 South Col 7900m Summit Col. Time: 2:00pm. We have made it to the South Col. One of the most, if not the most famous camp in the world. Last night at camp 3 was a very good night. It was quite warn in our tent with the three of us. I did not even zip my sleeping bag all the way. I slept pretty well, but woke frequently. We were up at 4:30am to start to pack and get hot water for breakfast. Everything always takes longer than we think. We did not set off at 5am as planned, but were on the t

May 19 The Lhotse Face

Monday May 19. Camp 3. Well we didn't need too worry about getting overheated on the Lhotse face today. Keep reading to find out why. Last night just before bed we changed our morning departure time to 5:45am. Breakfast was to be at 5:15am. I slept ok, but not great. I often do not sleep great before an early departure. I woke at 4:45am and packed my bag and wandered to the dining tent. No breakfast was to be found until 6am. Our assistant cook has been reassigned to the Junkies as they have los

May 18 Here We Go

Sunday May 18. Camp 2 Rest Day. I slept well last night. We were in bed by 8pm which was ok since I had been up since 3:30am and had a full day. I slept solid for most of the night. I did hear the Sherpa get up at 2:30am to head up to the South Col with one final load. They made it to the Col and back to camp 2 in eight hours. Today will be resting, packing, eating and drinking. Tomorrow the real climbing begins. The best way for me to approach the next few days is to block it into sections. If

May 17 Camp 2

Saturday May 17. Camp 2 6400m. It is 2:40pm and I am sitting in my tent at camp 2. We arrived here at 12 noon. It was a slog, but not as bad as last time. The last few days have been really hot so we decided to leave earlier today. We woke at 3:30am and had breakfast at 4:00am. We were off at 4:30am. Since this is our summit bid the base camp Sherpa were all up to see us off (our climbing Sherpa were already at camp 2). To send us off the Sherpa had lit a juniper fire at the Chorten. We all walk
