Rocky went 4 wheeling and yak riding today. We traveled maybe 10 hours. Only 5 minutes by yak. The most wonderful part was stopping on a remote, sand and mud road. Beyond us the mountains went as far as one could see. We had just past stone and mud houses that were built as they had been for over a thousand years. Dung was plastered in patties to the wall to dry to be used as heat in winter.
Sand dunes filled the valley. Across them strode lone Tibetan. As he came closer we could see his was spinning wool as he walked. We had just left a place where water power was used to power a wood paddle grinding juniper to powder to be dried for incense.
Fortunately the one stuck vehicle was freed so we are here to write this from below an ancient fort in Gynaste.

Kaka — Fri, 09/07/2007 - 19:56Nice to hear that all is going well and the tranquility and splendor of the monastaries is having such a salutary effect. Here at home, those of us who shared earlier journeys are --well -- irritated! No, no, not because you are obviously having such a good time and it is hot as hades here. No, it is because of the dramatic appearance of Rocky. He chose, for reasons we can't fathom, not to acompany Nelly, Denise and I on our earlier treks. Oh, the perfidy! Yet, we soldier on -- hoping (perhaps fruitlessly) for enlightenment.
hello out there Gail
