Its now 3rd of October and after 6 months of solid training and preparation, I am now packing my bags and ready to fly into Kathmandu on the 6th October. From here I will start my trek on foot which will take me on a 25 day journey through the Khumbu region taking in Everest Base Camp and then the attempt to summit Island Peak (6189m) depending on the snow, weather and altitude conditions at the time.
Excited at the prospect of experiencing Himalayan culture for the first time and the challenges that will lie ahead pursuing my goals.
I hope you enjoy following me on this trek/climb and hope you gain a clearer perspective into what trekking/climbing in the Himalayan mountain ranges is all about !
Happy travels.......![]()

aeronik — Sat, 10/06/2007 - 03:36Good luck Kade! Enjoy every minute of this wonderful trip! I envy you. I was on this trek (EBC) last year and I've been on Kili this year. You can read me on the home page of this website. I'm seriously thinking about climbing Island Peak next spring (2008) and also going back to EBC and take the trail around Gokyo Lakes. I'm pretty sure reading you all the way will make it more tangible and it will keep me wanting to go back more and more....
Have a safe one!
Aeronik :o)
Good luck Kade
Paul Adler — Sat, 10/06/2007 - 07:16Hi Kade,
Good luck with your climb of Island peak - stay safe and don't push yourself too hard. Have an Everest beer for me at RumDoodle on the rooftop garden. And if you want to try the best Indian food that I have ever eaten, ask for the directions to Le Bistro in Thamel. It's opposite a T intersection near Hotel Mandap. The restaurant is upstairs and there is a bakery down below. I like the chicken tikka masala and their garlic naan; fiona liked their chicken korma. I would almost go as far as to say that this is the best food I have ever eaten, although that's a big call! For good pizza try Fire and Ice.
Cheers, Paul
