Howard and I at the Karatu orphanage. DATE: Jan 8th 2009

LOCATION: Highview Hotel, Karatu

Our last post, what to say... One of the most important and consistently enjoyable parts of this trip has been the food, and yet we have not commented on it in a post yet. We have had two cooks Mohammed and Raziki who have traveled with us the entire trip. Their service and and the food they prepared every day was amazing, all mind you with just a wooden fire to cook on. Today we finished our safari of the Lake Manyara National Park and have plenty of pictures to remember it by (many of them we owe to Howard's wide assortment of animal sounds). After lunch we toured town, and went through some of the non-tourist shops and stores. A few of us then toured the the Karatu Orphanage. Rick has gone their many times, and has a number of vollunteers lined up to lead projects in the new year. We leave for the United States tomorrow evening and await to see all of you when we return. PS Rachel can you check me in for my flight to RDU, all the information should be available in my email.

All the animal sounds!

LOL!! Who knew that dad had such a vast repertoire of animals sounds of the African Savannah?.....Deer, turkey and cow I could see! Wow, what a trip. I look forward to hearing all about it!

We are at the airport in Africa

Travel safely!

Peter, Thanks for the great updates. We have all looked forward to reading what you are up to each day. This has been a trip of a lifetime, thanks for letting us share with you!
What beautiful children in the picture with you. It's good to know that Pack Paddle and Ski are involved in helping them. I think I'd want to bring them all home with me!

Howard, I am impressed, as Karen said, I could see you calling deer, turkey, cows, etc. but you must be pretty talented to bring on the elephants!
Travel safely and please call when you get back to the US. We are anxious to have you home safely!

See you soon!

I too, cannot wait to hear Howard's animal sounds in person! Does this unique talent run in the family? Have a safe trip home and we'll see you when you get here!
