Island Peak Summit

< Newer | Older >

Hi everyone, attempted the summit 6189m this morning. Started at 2 am for a 9 hour greulling climb. Didnt quite reach the summit. Got to 6050m on the summit headwall had to descend due to extreme altitude sickness. Head felt like it was going to explode and was feeling really sick. Could see the summit from where i was however I wasnt sure what another 1hour climbing would do to me so I made the decision to come down. I may not have been able to come down by myself. Very disappointed however extremely happy with what I was able to accomplish. It was just extremely tough. Out of the 6 of us that climbed 2 made it to the top, another guy was with me and 2 others decided not to go. Feeling really exhausted, no sleep for the last 2 nights which made it even more hard. Will descend down to Island Peak Base Camp tonight. Sorry I cant write much more- not feeling the best- but just to let you all know how I went. Thanks again for all your support.

Cheers

Kade

Well done and a good decision

Hi Kade,
Well done on getting so high - a personal altitude record by the sound of it. Very keen to hear what the climb was like, particularly the headwall up to the summit ridge. Was there existing fixed ropes or did your team fix them?
Cheers, Paul.

well done

Hey Kade
Cory and Nic here, yes we are those girls we know who we are and we too think we are funny. Kade what you have achieved in the last month is more than most of us will achieve in a life time. If you never want to climb another hill or mountain you will never be asked to explain why?
I have a buyer for your facial hair when you decide to shave i think she is making a gollywog. hehe. Hope you are feeling better and can't wait to have you back court side for your valuable comments. Come home safe c/hand.

Very well done..can't wait

Very well done..can't wait to hear all the gory details...hopefully in person

Hi Kade, Your father rang us and told us about your achievement. It would be great to catch up with you today. If it is possible, perhaps contact your father who has our number and we can set it up. Thanks.

Good work

Well done Big fella, will speak to you when you get back to Oz. Very proud of what you have achieved and can't wait to hear all the stories of climbing the peak. Will see you when you get back.
