Bonjour a tous,

Desole d'avoir affole plusieurs personnes avec mon commentaire sur Facebook qui disait ceci: "Anik n'a pas atteint le sommet du Mont Rainier mais a survecu a une avalanche."

Voici un peu plus de details pour tous vous rassurer. Je vais donc recapituler les jours precedents l'ascension.

Jour 1 (17 septembre): Reunion avec le groupe. On se rencontre tous. On rencontre notre guide principal: Seth. On passe en revue l'equipement et on visionne une video avec survol de la montagne et la route que nous allons prendre. Nous faisons l'ascension par le Muir Snowfield, on dort a Muir Camp. Ensuite, on grimpe Cathedral Gap, Ingraham Flats, Disapointment Cleaver et ensuite le reste de la route pour le sommet. Nous sommes 9 au total (2 filles: moi et Erin) et 7 gars, tous d'un peu partout a travers les USA. Je suis la seule du Canada et bien sur la seule qui parle francais. Belle gang. Tout s'annonce super cool !!! On a tous hate de grimper. Il y en a beaucoup qui en sont a leur premiere experience. Je couche au Bunkhouse a Ashford.  

Jour 2 (18 septembre): Training day. On s'en va en autobus a Paradise, la ou les sentiers debutent au pied de la montagne et on se rend sur le glacier pour aller pratiquer nos techniques de toutes sortes: marche avec crampons sur glace, neige et roche, marche en cordee, auto-arret en cas de chute, comment se servir du ARVA (Appareil de Recherche pour Victime d'Avalanche), etc... Super belle journee, il fait soleil, on trippe, c'est tres relax comme ambience, les guides sont cool. On a un guide de plus cette journee, c'est Pete. On revient a la fin de la journee a Ashford. Souper avec la gang. On commence a se connaitre un peu plus. Je me mets chum avec 2 gars de San Francisco (Chris et Pete) et l'autre fille (Erin).

Hi everyone,

First of all, I want to apologize to the people I scared with that comment posted on Facebook earlier this week: "Anik didn't reach summit of Rainier but survived an avalanche."

Here are the details so I can reassure you all. And also an account of what went on the days before the climb.

Day 1 (september 17): Meeting with the rest of the team. Meeting with the lead guide: Seth. Review of the gear needed and we watch a video on TV with an overview of the mountain and the route we'll be climbing on. We'll be climbing on the Muir Snowfield, sleep at Muir Camp. Then, we'll head out for Cathedral Gap, Ingraham Flats, Disapointment Cleaver and then the rest of the climb is to get to the summit. We're 9 climbers total (2 women: myself and Erin) and 7 men, coming from all around the USA. I'm the only one coming from Canada and needless to say the only one speaking french. We're a bunch of good people! Everything and everyone looks super cool !!! We're all looking forward to this climb. Sleeping in Ashford at the Bunkhouse.

Day 2 (september 18): Training day. The shuttle takes us to Paradise, where all the trailheads starts at the foot of the mountain and we climb on the glacier to practice different skills and techniques that we will need on the mountain: walking with crampons on ice, snow and rocks, roped up, self arrest, how to handle the transceiver (AVALANCHE BEACON), ETC... Super nice day, it's sunny out, everyone is having fun, ambiance is relax, the guides are pretty cool. We have Pete as an assistant with Seth today. We come back to Ashford at the end of the day. We have dinner a bunch of people all together.  We start to know one another better. I make friends with three guys from San Francisco and Seattle, Chris, Pete and Steve, plus Erin, the other woman, from Arkansas.
