May 28, In Kathmandu

Hello from Kathmandu!

Thanks for all the congrats.

Arrived this am from Lukla, always an exciting flight, great views of the Himalaya to our right.

( I just want a computer with spell check as I am the world's slowest typist.)

Flew into the "Du" today and Nepal is in the middle of a constitutional change...after 240 years they are letting go of their king.

This puts into perspective my Everest summit, ...as always life goes on.

Thanks again to those who have posted, I always enjoy reading your messages.  So, I promised a sunnier message today!  You got to " let love rule..."  even though the riot police were massing in the streets as we drove from the airport to our hotel.  Why?  Because the king is supposed to step down but may not.  With a mixture of cricket and riot gear they were spreading out around the royal palace, everyone hopes it won't get nasty but this is Nepal so you never know.  When the police/army swing their 5 foot riot batons you don't want to be on the receiving end...give me pepper spray any day of the week!  All the tourists are in one neighbourhood so we are somewhat protected. Sonmeone just handed me a cuba libre (reminds me of a certain party in Quito in 2005 where too many of these drinks were consumed by...Dylan, Jenny, Mike amd Colin...but that's another story.)

Anyway, my IT support has gone to bed so I will send pictures tomorrow.
