Weather: Beautiful sunny day with a late afternoon cloud cover.
Hi it's David here.
After a leisurely morning breakfast at 7.30am we once again were greeted with a fantastic spread of food.
With limited time for our full stomachs to settle we began our second day with our intended destination of Namche Bazaar. The morning involved several impressive bridge crossings and then a fairly step and warm climb for a constant 1.5 hours. On two occasions today we were able to gain our first glimpse of Mt Everest.
Namche Bazaar
We were able to arrive in Namche Bazaar for lunch at about 1pm and with more fantastic food our stomachs were once again full and an afternoon sleep was looking a likely result.
The group woke up Caz before he had his afternoon nap and walked down the hill to the local market. This is special market that happens twice a year where the Tibetan people cross the Nangpa La pass and join the local Nepalese for this bi annual event.
As mentioned with the last post our group enjoys banter between each other and today's purchase from the market should add to the atmosphere.
Our Mascot
Darren and I decided that a mascot was required for the group. But who is to carry it? We decided that it should be the person voted the most foolish of the day. With this in mind we needed to search the market for the most appropriate mascot for the group. Like a ray of sunlight shining from the gods our mascot appeared. A Yaks skull seemed the perfect mascot!!
With a few minor adjustments and extra fittings overnight from the local boot repairer our mascot should be finished ready for our trek tomorrow.
Rules have been set and the Yaks head will feature in future pictures and stories.
Rule One.
The person voted by the group for the most foolish behavior will have to carry this for the next day.
Rule Two.
The person voted by the group will also be required to wear the mascot on there head forlunch and dinner.
Rule Three.
If no foolish behavior has been observed then the Yaks head remains with the person voted from the previous day.
Rule Four.
Dave Armstrong has all say on changing the rules and can adjust them when they suit him. (this may have some objections from the other group members however I am trying hard for this rule to be added.)
Darren has been voted the foolish trekker for today and will feature in our photo tomorrow.
Thanks to everyone for their posts so far and hopefully our trip can amuse and inspire.
Take care to all.
Dave

This is soooo exciting being on the other side of the website, writing the updates and not just reading them aloud during breakfast in funny voices. I hope you all just have the most wonderful time and give them villages a gday from me. We just finished having our homecoming parade, which I was in with our competitive cheerleading squad. so great fun over here in Florida.
....then i rushed to the computer to read the new update. Hope you're enjoying the chocolate pancakes and apple fritters for breakfast :)

Hi to you all
Visitor — Sat, 11/03/2007 - 01:24Hi everyone but particulary Paul A and Cas, your trip sounds great and brings back lots of memories. it must be fantastic to be in Namche when the special market day is on. I'm sure there will be lots to see, hear and smell.
Neil and I went to St Andrews market today and saw Beck - she was quite busy. Also I purchased the first baby gift - a baby towel made from natural Australian cotton ( I think it should be ok Paul). We are goiing to have dinner tonight with Fiona and Beck- can't cook in our kitchen as it's being rebuilt! -good excuse anyway. Cheers for now and take care
Love Marg
Not Surprised
Visitor — Sat, 11/03/2007 - 10:04Why am I not surprised Darren has ended up wearing the Mascot first? The rest of you fellas shouldn't feel too disappointed that you don't get the opportunity to wear it at all... :D
Glad to read that your trip is starting out well and looking forward to reading about your adventure as it happens. Darren if you're typing make sure you remember we don't need to read about EVERYTHING.
Stay safe
Angela
Who's going to be wearing the yaks head the most?
Visitor — Wed, 11/07/2007 - 18:02No guesses required - Paul B - you'd do anything to get that yak's head I'm sure!
Great to hear the stories mate, the anticipation of you guys getting up the mountain is killing me here!
By the way there's a huge party on when you get back. Free drinks, thanks LSC.
Good luck and enjoy the trip
