Making our way home, stopped at Namche Bazar

Hello all, Larry here, on Friday 8th Oct.
Firstly a big thank you to all messages received so far, much appreciated.

Since our last post, must report that while team were returning from Island Peak summit, Richard decided to go off and have a swim in Imja Glacial Lake (possibly the highest in the world) and after coming out a little light headed from the chill, and proving how brave he was, immediately proposed to his girl friend Airin. She said 'Yes!'

We packed up and left Island Peak Base Camp yesterday morning. We will all miss having spam for lunch and dinner, plus the singing chef who prepared it (somewhat like the 'Swedish Chef' from Muppits).

Our friend Indi was a little faint with exhaustion, and having some trouble keeping up pace, so we've rented a horse to carry him home, down the mountains.

Last night we stayed overnight in Pangboche, surrounded by trees for the first time in over a week. The mountain views have provided many picture-taking vantage points. The uninterrupted view of stars, late each night, has been truly spectacular!

The Sherpa's have given myself the nickname "Hillary", derived from "Hi Larry". Gotta love their simple humour, as well as their stamina. At one point I was struggling up one hill carrying a 5kg backpack, blisters on both feet, and one Sherpa suggesting he carry my backpack (as well as his own); the offer very tempting. But then we see a boy, only 12yo, carrying a load which looks like at least 30kg's, and so I'm thinking if that young lad is doing that, then I'm not giving up my small load, eh!!

Dave is the Judge

Your own Dave A had a swim, in a skin coloured swim suit, in the Gokyo Lakes. It was videoed. He will be able to say if Richard actually holds the record for the highest swim !!

Although the facts are that the Gokyo lakes are ooughly @ 4750m and the Imja Lake is just above 5000m...Richard gets it for me if like Dave he spent a full 1.5 minutes in there .

How on earth Airin said yes after he came out of that frozen lake though I will never know :-)

Congratulation to both of you

Cassra

But... was it as graceful as Dave's effort???
