John Here:
This was a tough day. The landscape changed from lunar to volcanic to relatively lush valley. Negotiating the rocky trails was a challenge. I am tired as hell. Hopefully I will get some good rest.
We can’t individually blog, we get all yours but can only do a mass posting.
Marty, Phyllis, Sharon, Keith and others are delighted with your emails. All love them, keep them coming.
Send family news.
Ryan is at hotel and doing well.

Climb the wall
Jim and Bonnie 08 — Fri, 02/20/2009 - 17:05We both continue to love seeing the pictures, the bufffs, the smiling faces etc.
As the '08 team has been saying all along........ your adventure brings back terrific memories and we almost feel like we are there with you. Continued good luck with the climb.
As you climb the famous Barronco Wall, stop look around and look back to where you were a few hours ago. Amazing views, soak it in and enjoy.
The summit is getting closer!
Welcome to Barranco!
partruc — Fri, 02/20/2009 - 17:12Great picture of the "young farts" in front of the beautiful Senecio Trees! You guys are doing great. You're gonna love going up "The Wall". Don't let Sharon "the psycho triathlete" run up it (you know she could). Thinking about you all constantly, reliving it all in my head. I'm on the wrong side of these emails! Be sure you are all DRINKING PLENTY OF WATER - 3 liters/day minimum! If I was there, I'd be yelling at you if you didn't (just ask Matt). Have a great stroll to Karanga Camp. You're getting close!
Paul the '08er
You're all awesome!
Dale Heffer — Fri, 02/20/2009 - 17:18Bonnie,
Good to see your smiling face up on the mountain. Guess you're doing well if you can still smile! I transcribed your audio for Bryan but John had already done it! Nice to hear your voice too! Everyone at LBF asks how things are going. I keep the updates on the desk! Continue to be strong and happy - message to everyone!
Love, Dale (Bonnie's Sister)

dabruzzo — Fri, 02/20/2009 - 17:30Hey Karen and gang,
I'm at my desk at work and this is something Karen gave me so I want to "pay it forward" - "The will of God will never take you where the Grace of God will not protect you" This goes out to all of Kili '09 climbers!! Stay strong! xoxo Love, Dina p.s. Karen ....can't wait to hear your Audio!!!
Barranco Challenge
CWilcox — Fri, 02/20/2009 - 17:31Congratulations to everyone for persevering to this point. I remember that the Shira to Barranco hike was the toughest day for me since I wasn't feeling too well. Tomorrow you will tackle the Barranco Wall. It looks daunting but don't worry. Climbing the wall was probably the most fun I had on the entire Kili climb. The views are spectacular and you will come to REALLY appreciate how hard the porters work. Stay strong and savor these moments of extreme beauty. Your heart will be filled and your spirit uplifted.

Hello All
LAllen — Fri, 02/20/2009 - 17:53The Barranco wall was part of my "freak out moment" the November before our climb. It didn't help that I looked at videos of other people climbing it on youtube I thought to myself -Who the heck do you think you are thinking you can do this? I said to my husband -Rick told us this was the "walking Man's mountain" I have never even hiked or camped before. The important thing is we all helped eachother through and kept positive attitudes. You do become family. Keep up the good spirits, this is one amazing experience.

Hey Jennie
postsp — Fri, 02/20/2009 - 18:22The Barranco challenge sounded like a lot of hard work. I bet you and everyone else is exhausted. Don't forget to keep drinking water. I'm checking the site daily and following your climb. Keep treking! Love, your little sis, Susie and family
Keith ... We are with you
PSymanski — Fri, 02/20/2009 - 18:37Hey Keith, I get teary with joy when read these posts, especially listening to the audo posts. Sounds like each day gets more challenging for the group. And it is good to know you are all watching out for each other. Just remember ... it is not only your 'peeps' back here who are with you every step. There are those who have gone before us too ... they are holding your hand, filling your heart with courage, perserverance, strength, and endurance, and keeping an eye on you in a way we can't. Keep it up! You are doing Great! Paula

hleblond — Fri, 02/20/2009 - 19:00Karen - I am thinking of you right now as I eat my popcorn out of my fancy popcorn container that you so kindly got for me. It is cold and windy here. Very bad road conditions this morning on our way into work but they are better now. LOST was really good last night - hope you have it on DVR, if not I'll save it for you! Keep your head up, you must be getting tired but the summit must soon be in sight. PS - I found a ready-made margarita mix that is to die for. We will have to have one together upon your return! Love, Heather

DesisMom — Fri, 02/20/2009 - 20:06Love that photo. didn't realize that there was such a variety of ages. That means that I have no excuse to climb mountains. Suppose to snow here today.
I love the name Banana Yoshimoto. I should have named Desi, Banana -- or Apple -- or a fine fruit name.
I've been thinking about a pen name and I like "Lake Livingston". Eventually I'll get my Phd and then you can say, "Dr. Livingston, I presume?" And I would answer, "Just call me Lake."
I can't even imagine what you are going through right now. Thought I would add a lighter touch to the message.
Signs you might be an internet geek -- 1. You're amazed to find out that spam is actually a food. 2. You often say LOL out loud. 3. Instead of calling you to dinner, your spouse emails. 4. You don't ask for phone numbers, you ask for their web address.
There were more, but I thought you could make them up -- for those who are actually computer geeks. Are hikers computer geeks?
Well Done '09'ers!!

We're incredibly proud of your grit and determination, not to mention those amazing climbing skills. Keep at it, and we will too.

Jeanne Mogauro — Fri, 02/20/2009 - 22:09I am loving the daily updates! It's so exciting. I'm not sure what your weather is there, but we are experiencing some frigid weather in Rochester, NY. 17 degrees this morning with wild wind gusts! Everyone here is fine. The MIMs will be together tomorrow for a long run, so your ears may be ringing. The posts are flying back and forth as to how you are all doing. We're so proud of you! Stay strong!!!

jeffreykorn — Sat, 02/21/2009 - 03:48So happy to see your smiling faces in the photo that was posted today! The cactus-y plants behind you are not what I expected to see in the background of your pix from the climb up Kili, though! (Mom, you'll have to tell me what those are when you return.)
We just came from Shabbat dinner with Mike and Carole and Claire — they've been following your climb online, too, and we spent part of the evening just marveling at this amazing undertaking.
Can't wait to hear the latest audio update. Love you!

I surrvived the bad 80s music at the alley only to be deafened by 6 teeneagers and a loud radio on the way home! lovin every minute of it. Teagan is sewing annalie a dress. Dr Charlene sends her reguards along w a supply of Malerone. Everyone here asks about you and sends their support. You are all making us realise what can occur when we become part of something that is larger than ourselves. You take us all with you to new heights. Take it one step at a time and let the spirit carry you when you need it! 143 Char

ALmost there!
lmerz — Sun, 02/22/2009 - 13:07Hey, Desi and Alex and everyone else--From reading the posts I see that you are actualyl ALMOST THERE!~ This continues to thrill me, on your behalf. At the times when you can think about it, remember how totally powerful you are! There are only a small number who can do what you are doing! Also, those of us who have had cancer are SO GRATEFUL, knowing what the advances in cancer research already have meant for us (life!!!!) and for the money you are raising for cancer research so others can live! Now, I don't know if this is true but I am betting you could use some humor about now so here are some George Carlin one-liners someone sent me. Don't laugh so hard you lose your breath, but hope this will lift any sagging spirits! Lawrie Merz (desismomsfriend)
