Hi It's Paul Adler here with an update from Island Peak High Camp at 5450m.
I am tucked away in my tent that I am sharing with Dave Armstrong. Next to me in their tents are the other Island Peak climbers - Dave Duncan, Rohan McColl, Rosalba Bettiol, John Stanley & Ray Todd. The rest of the team is at Island Peak base camp, enjoying a well earned rest.
Everyone made it up to the high camp in good style, taking it very slowly to conserve energy for tomorrow. Our plan is to wake at 1:30am and have something to eat, get ready, and then depart for the summit at 2:30am. The reason we are leaving this early is that for the past week the weather has been better in the morning, so we ideally want to be off the higher parts of the mountain before 11am, when the wind will increase. Right now there is no wind at all and the outside temperature is -8C. I expect it will be about -15C when we leave in the morning. Brrrr!
All going well we hope to summit at around 8am Nepal time (1:15pm AEST). I will be carrying the satellite phone with me, so we will try to do an audio blog from the summit, weather and conditions permitting of course. Stay tuned and thanks for all your messages of support!
Bye for now, Paul Adler.
