FEb 21-Base Camp

DATE: 02-21-2010 LOCAL: Tanzania, Africa Jambo, Today we climbed to base camp,Barafu High Camp at 15,500 ft. It was a very steep, slow climb. Pole, pole (slowly, slowly) was our consistent, determined pace. We arrived together as if attached by some invisible, uniting cord. It was not raining when we arrived for which we were most grateful. Tomorrow,Sunday night, at around 9-11pm EST We plan to summit. There will be no text or picture post at that time. We plan to but do not gaurantee an audio post from summit. Much Love to all. BWM

I am remembering so vividly our trip of ,wow, it has been a year ago! Summitting was an amazing feeling, nothing like it for me. It was pitch black except for the long snake of head lamps making their way Pole! Pole! up the mountain. Then to see a thin narrow red neon light following the curvature of the earth, finally yielding a gorgeous breath taking view that is too hard to capture with words. It was such a spiritual experience. Rick and I will be online waiting for the message you topped out at 19345 ft. We wish you an experience of a lifetime. Oh ask Rick to give you fast ferry approach to getting down the scree quickly. You won't even know you were at the top after what will seem like seconds with Rick's assistance. February 22, 2010 Journeys of Inspiration "Kicked Cancers Ass" by summiting Mount Kilimanjaro. It was a difficult victory that was made possible by the team working together to achieve their goal. Step by step they climbed throughout the night. Neither cold nor wind could hinder their progress. Keeping their loved ones close to their heart and knowing others affected by cancer would see another birthday compelled them to keep going. Congratulations!!!! You did it!!

You are the man. The Norwich Family YMCA family is proud of you and your team! I was able to read and catch up on your trip this weekend. You are almost there. You can do it. In fact you can do it for all of us reading and listening as you make the summitt. We are all with you (thats why your back is so sore)! Take a deep breath when on top and then let it all out. Enjoy the view, the silence, the friendships made, reflect, and remember why you are there. Lastly smile because you achieved something special my friend.
My son is on my lap listening to the voice updates on the trip. We are enjoying this for you.
