Development Finally Starts

We decided (fairly obviously) that Brad would do the database and PHP code, and I would do the front-end presentation of the site (HTML and CSS). After both taking a bit of a crash-course in these new technologies (for us) and mocking up a few practice pages, we've now begun development, and I can tell you it's a steep learning curve.

As we're both working from our respective homes, we've had to define some ways of working to ensure neither of us overwrite each other's files. At the moment we're using Zend Development Environment but we'll see if we continue along this way.

On 25th April I leave for a trip to Nepal to support Paul as he attempts to climb Mt Everest again this year, so I'm trying to get as much of the interface laid out as I can before I leave. That way Brad will be able to code them up without having to worry about the presentation. At the moment it's excruciatingly slow going though. Cross-browser compatibility is a major issue - if only they all behaved the same way. It’s amazing how many differences there are just between Internet Explorer 6 and 7.
