Camp 2 ... Again

< Newer | Older >

Partial team picture in the mess tent at Camp 2 after a long day's hike!Day #32

Location: Camp 2
Altitude: 6400m
Local Time: 9:00pm / April 28
Weather: Cool (30's) very windy

This will be a short blog as I just wanted to let everyone know that we are safe and sound at Camp 2. It has been an extremely long day of hiking and altitude gain and I can honestly say that all of us are knackered! I am writing this short note from my sleeping bag inside my tent and my hands are getting numb ... so won't write much more! Tomorrow is a rest day before we head to Camp 3, so will take advantage of that time to respond to the past few days of messages!

Thanks again for all your support and I am very happy to have all of you along for the adventure!

Carol:

Greetings Pat...

It is inspiring to read your informative and articulate dispatches. Also to see another with some grey in their beard who is obviously in top form is additionally inspirational. Hope that you and team get good rest, food and relaxation before heading back up.
Take Care...

Resting in C-2

Hey Pat and team

I hope you were able to get some good rest at C-2. Wishing you a safe journey to C-3...can you believe it...C-3. You are on your way to the top! I like the photo of the mess tent in C-2. You'd never know that you had just fininshed climbing at such high altitude! You guys look great!

Well, continued success; stay safe and climb strong.

hi Dr. Hickey!!!

I've been keeping up with your web updates. We miss you here, it's a little lonely walking by your office upstairs. Looks like it is going well - stay safe. Back here at the CON, my only news is that I'm ALMOST DONE with the BSN!

PS

That was from Sabra, forgot to sign off!

Hi Pat

I hope when you read this you have sufficiently recovered after the long hard hike up to camp 2. Paul Adler reported in his recent post that you guys crossed paths in the icefall, although you didn't talk for long. What's your view of the icefall and the route that has been set by the icefall doctors? Paul reported in his latest had been "huge avalanches off the west shoulder of Everest. They (had) reached the icefall and dusted base camp, however luckily no one was injured". Please climb safely and use your best judgment.

Are you getting excited now?

Pat, it looks like you're moving right along. It must have been a good trek if all of you are this tired. It sounds like you're getting closer to reaching the your goal. May God be with you and your team as you go upward. Every picture I've seen shows just how awesome it is. I'd say bring me back some snow but it would just be water then!

Keep on trekking...we'll be here ready to read about adventures

Camp 3 or bust!

Pat, I hope you and your group are able to rest well tomorrow and then and have a safe climb to Camp 3! Wow, you all are really making progress! Are you able to sleep at the high altitudes?

Stay safe up there!

High boss

Sorry I've been MIA for a few days. Super busy time at Headquarters & it's all good! We've finally have some warm weather here in Denver, 78 today. Feels like summer. Can you imagine having the job of the sherpa's that fix the trails in the icefalls? How interesting! Its so nice to be a part of your adventure, THX! GO PAT, Go Pat, goooo Pat!

Hi Pat

I was wondering if any of this years climbs are being filmed, last year I watched Everest on the discovery channel, I was hoping to watch this year too. Oh well have a safe climb, and keep warm, Cathy from CT

Rest and Lhotse face...

ORNAC meeting in Victoria

HI Pat,
Sorry I have been delayed in posting you a note. I just returned from Victoria where I attended ORNAC (OR Nurses Assn of Canada) to help introduce www.becomenasti.com (nurses advocating smokefree theatres immediately) which will be a big help with my PhD dissertation about compliance with the evacuating surgical smoke. MaryJo Steiert, Betty Shultz, Sheila Allen, and Susan Banschbach were there too. Great time. Please keep safe as we worry about you but we're saying lots of prayers for you too. Love the updates on your adventures. Kay Ball RN

bon chance

Hey Pat

The blog is awsome. Wendy Langston turned me on to it a couple days ago and I've been checking in daily since. Aint technology great! And the Summit Scholarship, what a great way to focus attention on the nursing shortage. Good luck and stay safe.

Almonte ON Canada

Hi Pat,
I am following you on your hike daily and am glad things are going well. I have a couple of questions for you. What is your source of drinking water and how cold does it get at night, and do you have any source of heat other than your sleeping bag?
I talked to your Mom and Dad last weekend. They are doing fine. Keep safe.
Fran.

Hey Buddy

Good to hear you guys are getting some much needed rest.
I am following you trek and also enjoying the article in Men' Health regarding Mt. Everest as well. It is validating all that we are getting live from your team/friends.
Continue the fun and adventure. See you when you get back!
George

Just to say Hi

Just wanted to say Hi to Pat and hope he is doing well

Hurrah!

Hey Uncle Pat!
I have been following you and your teams trek up the mountain almost everyday and it's great to see that everything has been good! My trip was an awesome experience and I love France (not so much Paris) and Spain. We went with a school from Calgary and we made alot of new friends, I also met some people from London and a few from some of the places I visited. I have so many stories to tell you, which I will share when you come home (and lots of pictures).
Keep on going, your amazing!!!
I'll talk to you again soon
Bye- Julia

Pat - Best Wishes

I am awed by your focus and commitment to achieving your dream. Be safe and know that many are with you in spirit. All the best. Tom Cooper
