Hi Everyone
This is Sarah Wiley, Angus' wife, writing this post from Vancouver island. I am writing this update for Angus who asked that I submit it for him. I spoke to him last night. He was in the Nepalese Army tent at base camp having returned from camp one. This tent is about a 15 minute walk from his tent at base camp. The team travelled through the ice fall to camp one, at 6065m, with no difficulties. Angus said that the ice fall was like a massive obstacle course, with ladders (sometimes four ladders lashed together) strung across crevasses. At Camp One they were able to get great views of the route up to Camp Three and also views of Lhotse, a neighbouring peak. The weather has been great - cool in the nights and warm during the day time - typically spring mountain weather. Angus decided not to bring his down suit with him to camp one and so slept quite cold (it got down to minus 15 in the night). He will bring his down suit up with him when they head up again later this week.
Everyone on the team is doing well - Angus feels really good. They will be at base camp for a few days and then they will head to Camp One and then Camp Two sometime around mid-next week (Wednesday). They will then return to base camp after a few days where they will rest and collect more supplies, equipment etc. to take up with them to the higher camps. Essentially, they are "leapfrogging" their way up the mountain.
Angus thanks everyone for their support and encouragement. He has enjoyed reading the posts and the well wishes of you all so keep it coming!
That's all for now
Sarah Wiley

Greetings Angus,
wmpopper — Sun, 04/20/2008 - 18:51Congratulations for making it to Camp1 and return to Base Camp, that seems like quite an undertaking in and of itself through the Icefall and navigating across all the snow and ice. Hope that the weather continues to be favorable and conditions in Base camp are as enjoyable as possible.
Take care and all the best,
WP

What a challenge
sc2392@start.ca — Wed, 04/23/2008 - 02:46Dear Angus and Sarah,
I follow your adventures with great interest.
You can do it, Angus!
(And I thought the ice packs on Baffin were trouble enough, the mountain to climb quite steep when looking up, and the soaking wet boots when running behind the dog team in spring weather, weighing at least a tonne...)
Keep up your well-being and high spirits, and you, too, Sarah.
Greetings!
Gisela
