Your audio blog makes me wish I was somewhere like that instead of being stuck here in busy Columbia studying until I fall asleep :)
I look foward to hearing from you soon.
Amy Wilson
Pat, sorry to be bossy, but please, please, mention your altitude in blogs and audios, and, as a flourish, how you're coping with same. You insisted we all come along with you on this trip; now we need details. It is very cool sharing this with you from such a long way away. David
I am buying a map and will have exact towns, altitude, weather, etc. in future updates. I started Diamox this morning as I could feel the difference in breathing last night ... not fun! Had a tingly nose today ... an expected side effect! More soon on details!
Enjoyed the audio description from the Himilayas. I read on one of your blogs about Paul and Google Earth. We have google earth downloaded on our computer, is there a path we can follow as you climb up the mountain or do we connect with Paul's site somehow? Does that make sense? Good Luck and prayers as you continue. Michele
Once you download google earth there is a file (located on Paul's blog ... probably about 10 days ago!) that you open and it will show the route with thumbtacks ... real cool!
I've just re-read your bio and realize that TA isn't the only Canadian on this website who is climbing Everest this spring. I am so entralled with reading all of the daily updates that I somehow missed that you were born here. It's so great to be able to follow you all as you tackle this challenge. I don't know any of you personally, but I wish you all a safe and strong climb. Shelagh, Ottawa and Margaree Harbour.
Thanks for your message and yes there are a few of us crazy canucks here on Mt. Everest. I have a Canadian flag given by friends in Almonte to fly on top of the world!
Thanks for the well wishes and please check in regularly.
Go Ottawa Senators!!!
What you are setting out to accomplish is awesome. We in Columbia, your friends and colleagues, are with you in thought and spirit. We wish you the best for a safe and spectacular journey...May the skies above you be blue and the ice beneath your feet be sure.
Great to hear from you. I believe that my qualifications as a Risk Manager have prepared me for this adventure.
Thanks for the well wishes and I look forward to those blue skies and solid ice!
Pat,
I'm so jealous. Wish I was there with you. But, I will look at the full moon tonight from our balcony over Lake Murray and will be sending you warm thoughts, well wishes, and all my love.
Miss you.
Carol
Hey Pat
I have completely imagined the full moon lighting up the Himalayan snow capped mountains. Here are a couple of words I came up with...stunning, breathtaking, magnificent and my favorite word...majestic! One day, I will experience that beautiful setting...thanks for describing it to us.
MC
Pat, your audio description was such that I can close my eyes and picture the moon and the mountains. Many thanks for saying the names of the places you are passing through. Hope you are doing well with the trek!
I'm buying a map so I can get names, altitudes, and everything else as correct as possible. The moon I saw that night was simply stunning ... breathtaking too (but that might have been the altitude).
WOW! How exciting! So glad to hear this is off to such a wonderful start, full moon and all. It's warm, windy and sunny here in Denver, with predicted cooler weather to come. Everytime anyone comments on it, I have to reinterate with "Yeah but imagine if you were with PAT at the foot of Everest!". We'll keep you at the forefront of our daily conversations and near in our hearts as you proceed. Go Pat, go Pat, gooo PPaatt :) luv from CO :)
Maybe this adventure will spark an interest in your grandson to travel ... or maybe even climb a mountain! I hope to inspire people through my efforts.
Hi Pat:
This latest journey of yours is absolutely wonderful, and how great that we can all come along as well. I'm eager to continue following the blog and listen to the audio updates, it is certainly an welcomed respite from the hustle & bustle of the ED/CCT life.
After listening to your audio update tonight, Sandy came home from work and was awestruck by the moonrise here in Colorado. So, we stepped out onto our deck and decided that we can all share in the journey with you, by simply taking in the beauty of viewing the Moon... I'm sure your view is a tad bit more wondrous.
We are thinking of you, and our prayer flags have been moved outside to lift and carry our thoughts on the wind.
Paul and Sandy
How cool that you guys checked out the moon after my audio update. Sheer words could not describe it's beauty ... I was absolutely blown away (of course, it might have been the altitude!). Thanks for the note on the prayer flags ... I just love them!!! They are everywhere here as well as the prayer wheels ... such a neat part of this world.
Well I just watched your Breeze presentation for our test in Community Health and then I made my way to this website and the view sounds amazing. Somehow imagining the view from the base of the mtn was more exciting than thinking of a cholera epedemic... who would of thought that. Keep moving on we are all behind you!
-Alan Baker
I had a problem posting last night (am on a computer in Namche Bazar at present) so will try again tonight to work through the issues. Keep sending as you have.
I'm looking after the communications side of things for TA, who is also on this site. When we were testing the PDA before she left, we had to reconfigure the outgoing server to the same address as the wireless signal we were using at the time - not the usual one you will use per Paul's set-up instructions. TA was then able to send from the PDA. Not sure if yours is the same issue but I thought I'd share the beta. Best of luck with the communications and safe climbing!
Reading the exchanges from you two brings tears to my eyes! You are truly an amazing couple. Good luck to you both on this journey--obviously, you are there together all the way! Gene
Found your Mt. Everest Route on Google Earth. When you go to a list of all of Paul's updates, he has it titled, so was easy to find and ready to download from his site. He gives instructions on what to do. We already had google earth so there may be more to it if others try...but it takes you right to base camp, so cool. Now we can follow you up the mountain and see where you are. It gives elevations but not sure about accuracy or how to use that because it seems to give a different number for the same spot depending on what direction you are going when I was jumping from camp to camp. Looking forward to your trip up the mountain. Michele
Pat Hikeeeeey! Wow, it was really neat hearing from you by audio. I could almost picture the view. My dad introduced me to "small mountian" hiking trails in Washington State. The thing I remember most are the views of the mountains and sky (when it wasn't raining of course)...little comparison to where you are. I'm going to share your blog with him. He is much like you when it comes to enjoying the great outdoors. Take good care!
Your nursing colleagues are proud of you for bringing attention to the nursing shortage—local and global. You are assisting us nurses to actualize our role as we care for others. May we all hear Florence Nightingale (1820-1910, founder of modern, secular nursing) cheering you on and see the “lady with the lamp” smiling to know that you are climbing to help create a healthy world. May your climb to the top of the world to Mt. Everest be steady and safe.
