April 24 Summary

Me and EverestApril 24
Base Camp
Update
I have been at altitude since April 1st when we landed at Lukla.
It took us 9 days to trek in to base camp so we have been here for 2 weeks. We plan to climb up to C1 tomorrow, sleep there, then move up to C2 for a few nights. Each time we travel to the high camps we carry up high altitude gear for our summit bid, I am taking up my down suit, my super duper warm mitts and my summit novel (The Number 1 Ladies Detective Agency). We may be able to sleep at C3 if the Chinese carry the torch from the north side to the summit in the next few days, we are all hoping that happens, Go China Go! I feel good, yesterday I trekked to Pumori BC and then down to Gorak Shep for a lunch of tomato soup and hashbrowns with egg and cheese, delicious! In summary, I am feeling good and ready to get up high, see more of the route and acclimatize.
Onward and upward,
Angus

Messages

greetings to Angus

hi Angus, I don't know if my last message was sent to you. I am glad all is going well with you and your climb. We had a great visit with your parent's and I had a nice telephone call with Sarah.
Take care and we think of you always.
Linda

Hi again

Sarah has been diligently keeping the "Family" posted with all the updates..glad to hear the weather has been co-operating and the acclimatization has been trouble free. We are rooting for the Torch to summit soon and then it's your turn!!! Cooler weather in the east is coming and the flowers are out in Mt. Albert. Gray is home from Waterloo now and the food bills are climbing.. higher than Everest I fear...Love from the LewCrew

Nice Lid, Squid!!

Hi Gus, groovy hat, hope it is shielding your freckled face from the intense UV rays. Just read the post on the Mountain Professionals blog, and saw the photos of your dining tent and so on. It looks quite homey. Enjoy your climb, and your book- I just read it and the dry landscape of Botswana should provide a good mental contrast to the icy, cold landscape you currently in- enjoy!
love Loll

Go Angus Go!

It sounds like you are primed and ready to go. You have not lost your billy-goat appetite at high-altitude... I think this is a very good omen. We will be cheering you on! Geoff and Kiyomi

a new addiction......

Angus (and Sarah) Thanks for keeping us all up to date--I swear this site is like crack for the adventure bereft!--I find myself checking in pretty much daily to see how you guys are progressing-- we all pray that the weather holds out and that you guys continue in good spirits --Onward and Upward indeed!!--keep those posts coming!

Keep it up Angus!

Hi Angus!

Grade 10's and I following your progress

Hi Angus, Just a quick note to let you know that the Grade 10's and I are following your climb with interest. I had a good giggle about your "pee bottle" escapade. It sounds as though you're having a blast. Enjoy, Pippa

Hey Angus...

Mr. P. Mo writing to you from Lonsdale's House! We miss you around here and are hopeful you will be at the top of Everest very soon. We are enjoying the NHL playoffs, though Daine was devasted that Calgary was eliminated in the first round. You would be impressed with changes to the grounds around the residence since our open house is this week--a lovely change for you to enjoy when you successfully return.

I am in awe of your mental and physical preparation--best of luck!

Think great thoughts!

Paul

Armour Heights Public School

Hi Angus,
We are Mr. Nitsou's grade 3 class and Mr. Offer and Ms. Klements grade six classes and part of the Everest Quest club. We are following you up Everest by reading your blogs. Mrs. McLean is sending us emails as well and she has come and presented to us about Everest. We have a few questions: Is it cold there? Are you homesick? Are you scared? Are the people you've met nice? How do you sleep? Are you going to climb any of the other 7 summits? We know you will make it to the top!
Good Luck from Armour Heights

Hi Angus, Got the word from

Hi Angus,
Got the word from Sarah yesterday after the SLS Board meeting that you have been to Camp 2 and now at Base where there are lots of folks. Got myself geared for your climb by reading Bonnington's "The Unclimbed Ridge"; NE ridge from Tibet side.
Unfortunate you had to divert from that side.I hope the weather holds and you establish 3 and 4 soon.
On behalf of the SLS Board ,we wish you and your gang all good fortune as you carry the flag to the summit.
Roy
