< Newer | Older >

Hi Everyone

This is Sarah, Angus' wife, sending this post. Angus and Scott successfully summited Mt. Everest this morning (Nepalese time). They are now back at Camp 4 and are safe and healthy. They will descend to camp 2 tomorrow. Thanks for all of your support and encouragement over the last 2 months - I know it has been great for Angus to receive your messages.

Yayyy Big Monnnn!!

Wow!! About 2 months ago when you had to change your plans and move to the other side of the mountain things seemed pretty doubtful. But you guys were patient and when your moment came you were ready! I woke up in the middle of the night last night and kept checking for updates. Look forward to reading more details. See you at the Murray cottage in the summer Angus.

Chomolangma Dude!!!

May 21 BC (home) to C2 (work) 76m - 78m . Time: 4:00pm EST I didn’t have a good sleep last night. I spent most of the night tossing and turning visualizing Angus, Scott, Al and the Sherpas on the move. I Woke up this morning exhausted expecting a new dispatch but none was to be found. I drove to work (drive two blocks, 2 breaths, sip coffee, swear at discourteous driver, repeat.). I immediately sought shelter in my classroom and brought up Angus’ MyEverst.com page. I think my finger is numb from hitting the refresh button about a 1000 times. The day slowly progressed into a curriculum free-for-all as I was either refreshing the browser or nursing my finger. Finally, my sherpa (classroom volunteer) helped to bring things under control while I combed the web for the good news.

Alas, the grand news arrived via Susan that they had made the summit. I was so excited for the whole team that I had to suck A’s (awe - ygen) for 2 hours to control the hyperventilation. I’m not sure that my aweygen regulator is working properly. I am starting to mumble statements that illiterate - things like “An awesome accomplishment Angus”, “Magical moment Murray” or the like. I am getting tired but must make the final push back to BC. Sarah and I will raise a Rye and Ginger to toast your summit .

Wishing you a safe and magical descent.

Love Jeremy, Sarah, Matthew and Natalie

Paul has climbed his own Everest in the past month following successful brain surgery, and we are happy to be back here listening to the loons and enjoying nature. We all hope to see you back here before long, too.

OUR CANADIAN IDOL

Congrats on what must have been a very trying yet exciting few days for you and your team. Following your expedition over the last few months has been a high lite and then to see you accomplish your goal and make it down safely has been exciting to follow. It is hard for me to comprehend that I recommended you seriously think about sitting this climbing season out just a few weeks ago in March. Obviously , you knew better in your heart and in your gut. Well done and I look forward to hearing every detail once you are back safe and sound on home turf at SLS. Oh yes, when back in Kat have few cold one's at Fire and Ice and keep the tradition alive at one of those places only those that have summited Everest can truly appreciate. Job well done Angus!!!!!

Well done Angus!

It must have been an amazing feeling to stand on top of the world. I'm sure you are well aware of the Edmund Hillary quote: "It is not the mountain we conquer, but ourselves." Hopefully this applied in your case as well. All the best and look forward to seeing the pictures upon your return to the school.

Sincerely, Andy Olson
