Sunday, April 6. Dingboche 4300m. Ama Dablam Garden Lodge.
Today we once again woke to snow and it has not stopped all day. It is quiet cold with low visibility due to the low clouds. Today is a rest day and we will stay in Dingboche for the day. After lunch we will walk up to the internet café and I will send this if it is operational.
There is really not much new today so I will write briefly about the people we have seen along the way.
Everest expeditions are made up of a surprisingly diverse group of people. Gone are the days of the hard-core climber who has climbed for 30 years before attempting Everest. Ages range from 20-65 and all walks of life and occupation are represented. We have come across two mother daughter teams, young people, older people, and people of all shapes and sizes. All of whom aspire to stand atop the world's highest peak.
Considering myself a climber, it is difficult not to judge some of these teams, but I learned a lot from running a marathon this past year. Standing at the starting line you see all ages, shapes and sizes. Some people I think have no chance of finishing, but often many of these same people pass me along the way to the finish line.
This is all to say that I will likely be pleasantly surprised as some of these folks pass me on the way to the top. Perhaps a bit jealous as well.
Unfortunately, we are still unable to get the sat phone/pda dispatch system to work. If this continues I will only be able to send voice dispatches from today on and will be unable to read all your messages. I will, however, look forward to reading them at the first chance I get.
That's all for now.
Big hugs to Susan, Amy and Colin.
Scott. (SS)

We're all really enjoying your stories. Nathan found your description of the blessing by Lama Geshe in Pangboche to be fascinating. He's trying to reconcile it with the blessing he gets by Pastor John in church during communion. He was also really enjoying Angus' story about the pee bottle . . . he's such a boy (any story about bodily fluids or noises has him rolling!!).
Stay strong and know that, even if you can't see our messages, we are traveling with you.
Phil & Karen, Nathan & Maggie.
Best Wishes

We are following your progress here in Whitehorse and wish you the best of luck. An empathy building spring ice climbing trip is planned for next weekend, hopefully there will be high winds and cold temps to help understand what you are experiencing.
Cheers,
Chris Gishler
